We provide a full range of emergency dental treatments to get you out of pain fast. We focus on managing urgent issues first, like relieving pain and treating acute problems with temporary solutions when needed. We’ll then arrange a follow-up visit to complete any further treatment you may need:

If your emergency is due to an accident, the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) may cover most of your treatment cost — but there may be a small part charge, which we’ll explain before treatment starts. We handle the ACC paperwork so you can focus on feeling better.

What To Do in a 
Dental Emergency  

Severe Toothache 

Swelling or Abscess 

Knocked-Out Tooth 

Broken, Chipped, or Cracked Tooth 

Injury to Gums, Lips, or Tongue 

Lost Filling or Crown 

  • Rinse with warm water and gently floss
  • Take over-the-counter pain relief if needed
  • Use a cold pack if swollen
  • Call us as soon as possible
  • Rinse with warm salt water
  • Take pain relief
  • Abscesses can worsen quickly, call us immediately
  • Hold the tooth by the crown (top), not the root.
  • Rinse gently with milk or saline.
  • Try to place it back in the socket or keep it in milk or your saliva. 
  • Come in immediately, the sooner you arrive, the better the chance to save the tooth. 
  • Save any broken pieces. 
  • Rinse your mouth with warm water. 
  • Use a cold pack on the cheek near the injury. 
  • Contact us promptly for repair. 
  • Avoid chewing on that side. 
  • Pharmacy dental cement can temporarily hold a crown - never use glue. 
  • Book an urgent appointment to restore it properly. 
  • Apply gentle pressure with clean gauze if bleeding. 
  • Rinse with warm salt water. 
  • Use a cold pack for swelling. 
  • For severe bleeding that won’t stop, go to a hospital emergency department.
